چکیده
An osmotically driven membrane process was proposed for seawater pretreatment in a multi-stage flashing (MSF) thermal plant. Brine reject from the MSF plant draw solution (DS) forward osmosis (FO) order to reduce chemical use. The purpose of FO is removal divalent ions prior desalination. In this study, at 80 g/L and 45 concentrations were used as brine seawater, respectively. temperature 40 °C 25 °C. Commercial thin-film composite (TFC) cellulose triacetate (CTA) membranes evaluated pressure-assisted (PAFO) processes. Experimental results showed 50% more permeation flux by increasing feed pressure 1 4 bar, reached 16.7 L/m2h PAFO with TFC compared 8.3 CTA membrane. experienced up 15% reduction after cleaning DI water while >6%. maximum recovery rate 11.5% 8.8% membrane, power consumption 0.06 kWh/m3 0.1

Energy Utilization of Brine from an Msf Desalination Plant by Pressure Retarded Osmosis
Seawater desalination plants discharge brine which is at higher salt concentration than the supplied seawater feed. Diluting this brine by mixing it with the lower concentration feed (seawater) will reduce the environmental hazards associated with the high salt concentration of the disposed brine. Energy can be generated from the dilution process in which two streams of different salt concentra...
متن کاملForward osmosis: Novel desalination of produced water and fracturing flowback
Treatment and reuse of oil and gas (O&G) production wastewater in a cost-effective and environmentally sound manner is critical for sustainable industrial development and for meeting stringent regulations. High salinity, free and emulsified hydrocarbons, silts and clays released from producing formations, and process additives common in O&G drilling wastewater render many conventional treatment...
متن کاملEconomic Evaluation of a Hybrid Desalination System Combining Forward and Reverse Osmosis.
This study seeks to evaluate the performance and economic feasibility of the forward osmosis (FO)-reverse osmosis (RO) hybrid process; to propose a guideline by which this hybrid process might be more price-competitive in the field. A solution-diffusion model modified with film theory was applied to analyze the effects of concentration polarization, water, and salt transport coefficient on flux...
متن کاملPerformance of Potassium Bicarbonate and Calcium Chloride Draw Solutions for Desalination of Saline Water Using Forward Osmosis
Forward osmosis (FO) has recently drawn attention as a promising membrane based method for seawater and brackish water desalination. In this study, we focus on the use of calciun chloride (CaCl2) and potassium bicarbonate (KHCO3) as inorganic salt draw solution candidates due to their appropriate performance in water flux and reverse salt diffusion as well as reasonable cost. The experiments we...
